Descendants of Jose Font y Bosch

 

A-1     Jose Font y Bosch was born September 29, 1791 in Cataluna, Spain. He was married to Marie Sicars. He died July 18, 1858 in New Orleans, Louisiana. He was buried in the Font Tomb in Lafayette Cemetery #1 in New Orleans, Louisiana.

 

Marie Sicars. She was the daughter of Jose Sicars and Magdalena Morell. Jose and Marie had the following children:

 

            B-1      Salvador Joseph Font was born July 4, 1816 in San Feliu De Guixols, Providence of Gerona, Cataluna, Spain. He was married to Celeste Pennison on May 27, 1841 in Natchez, Mississippi. He died September 6, 1877 in New Orleans, Louisiana. He was buried on September 9, 1877 in Lafayette Cemetery No. 1 in New Orleans, Louisiana.

 

Celeste Pennison was born March 9, 1825 in Bayou Boeuf, Louisiana. She was the daughter of Etienne Pennison and Rosalie Trahan. She died September 11, 1904 in Natchitoches, Louisiana. She was buried in the Font Tomb in Lafayette Cemetery No. 1 in New Orleans, Louisiana. Salvador and Celeste had the following children:

 

                        C-1     Jose Fredrico was born March 2, 1842 in Natchez, Mississippi. He was married to Eleanor B. Jones.

 

                        C-2     Dr. Jule Felix Miguel Font was born December 18, 1844 in Natchez, Mississippi. He received his medical degree from Tulane University. He died of Yellow Fever July 15, 1874 in Charenton, Louisiana.

 

                        C-3     Salvador Adrian Font was born October 26, 1847 in New Orleans, Louisiana. He was married to R.C. “Katie” Mitchell on August 23, 1882.

 

                        C-4     Mary Celeste Font was born February 19, 1850 in New Orleans, Louisiana. She was married to James Genius on February 5, 1879 in St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in New Orleans, Louisiana. She died December 4, 1929 in Kinder, Louisiana. She was buried in St. Mary’s Cemetery in New Roads, Louisiana.

 

James Genius was born July 26, 1834 in Rhenish, Bavaria, Germany. (Note: The Family Bible records the birthplace as Neustadt A/De Haardt.) He was the son of Francis Genius and Margaret Schuman. He immigrated to the United States from Germany in December, 1851. He enlisted into the Confederate Army on March 22, 1862. He served under Confederate General Albert Sydney Johnston in the War Between the States. He was a 1st Sergeant of Company K, 27th Regiment of the Louisiana Volunteers. He was captured at Vicksburg, Mississippi on July 4, 1863. He was released in a prisoner exchange on April 1, 1864 in Shreveport, Louisiana. His son, Albert Sidney was named after the General. He died September 7, 1889 in Natchitoches, Louisiana. He was buried in 1889 in Catholic Cemetery in Natchitoches, Louisiana. James and Mary had the following children:

 

                                    D-1     Francis Edward “Frank” Genius was born December 7, 1879 in Natchitoches, Louisiana. He was married to Mary Emma Bergeron on August 21, 1909 in Anchor, Louisiana. He died March 3, 1952 in Lake Charles, Louisiana. He was buried in St. Mary’s Cemetery in New Roads, Louisiana.

 

Mary Emma Bergeron was born March 29, 1886 in St. James, Louisiana. She was the daughter of Joseph Bergeron and Mary Daunis. She died May 19, 1973 in Iowa, Louisiana. She was buried in St. Johns Cemetery in Laccasine, Louisiana. Frank and Emma had the following children:

 

                                                E-1      Wynonah Agnes Genius was born August 1, 1910 in New Roads, Louisiana. She was educated at Louisiana Normal School(later Northwestern State University.) She was married to James Aswell “Pat” Hanchey on February 8, 1936 in Kinder, Louisiana. Her occupation was school teacher. She died December 24, 1981 in Lake Charles, Louisiana. She was buried in Prien Lake Memorial Cemetery in Lake Charles, Louisiana.

 

James Aswell “Pat” Hanchey was born August 6, 1911 in Mittie, Louisiana. He was the son of James Augustus Hanchey and Beulah Ollie Lindsey. His occupation was employee of Conoco Petroleum. He died February 20, 1999 in Lake Charles, Louisiana. He was buried in Prien Lake Memorial Cemetery in Lake Charles, Louisiana. Pat and Wynonah had the following children:

 

                                                            F-1      Patricia Genius Hanchey was born January 21, 1937 in Oberlin, Louisiana. She was listed on the 1960 U.S. Federal Census in Rayne, Louisiana. She was listed on the 1970-2000 U.S. Federal Census in Leesville, Louisiana. She attended and graduated from LaGrange High School in Lake Charles, Louisiana. She attended McNeese State University in Lake Charles, Louisiana. She was married to Richard West “Dick” Berry, Sr. on June 29, 1956 in Orange, Texas.

 

Richard West “Dick” Berry, Sr. was born November 7, 1936 in DeRidder, Louisiana. He was the son of Theodore Lloyd “Teddy” Berry, Sr. and Denise Eleanor West. He was listed on the 1960 U.S. Federal Census in Rayne, Louisiana. He was listed on the 1970-2000 U.S. Federal Census in Leesville, Louisiana. He attended and graduated from Leesville High School in Leesville, Louisiana. He attended McNeese State University in Lake Charles, Louisiana. His occupation was retail sales. He was listed on the 1990 U.S. Federal Census in Orlando, Florida. He was listed on the 2000 U.S. Federal Census in Stockbridge, Georgia. He was baptized in 1964 in the First United Methodist Church in Leesville, Louisiana. He attended and graduated from Leesville High School in Leesville, Louisiana. He attended Louisiana Tech University in Ruston, Louisiana. He attended Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, Louisiana. He pledged and was initiated on February 5, 1977 into Gamma Psi Chapter of Kappa Alpha Order at Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, Louisiana. He was elected to the Vernon Parish Democratic Executive Committee At-Large in 1975. He was one of the first 18 year olds ever elected to public office in Louisiana. He was elected to the Louisiana Democratic State Central Committee in 1979. His occupation was commercial aviation.

He was listed on the 1990-2000 U.S. Federal Census in Lake Charles, Louisiana. He attended and graduated from Leesville, Louisiana. He attended the University of Southwestern Louisiana (later University of Louisiana at Lafayette.) He attended and graduated from Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, Louisiana. He pledged and was initiated in the fall of 1977 into Gamma Psi Chapter of Kappa Alpha Order at Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, Louisiana. He was married to Martha “Marty” DeBlieux on April 21, 1989 at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Natchitoches, Louisiana. His occupation was accounting.

She attended the University of Southwestern Louisiana (later University of Louisiana at Lafayette.) She attended and graduated from Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, Louisiana. She was Vernon Parish Elementary School Teacher of the Year in 2001. She was married to (1) Michael Chapman on December 7, 1983 in Leesville, Louisiana. She was married to (2) Greg “Frank” Franklin on December 16, 1989 at Holly Grove Methodist Church in Anacoco, Louisiana.

                                                            F-2      James Randall “Randy” Hanchey was born June 30, 1938. He attended and graduated with a B. S. degree from the University of Southwest Louisiana (later the University of Louisiana at Lafayette.) He attended and graduated with his M. S. degree from Stanford University in Palo Alto, California. He was employed by and retired from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. He was Deputy Secretary of the Louisiana Department of Natural Resources. He was married to Charlene Pellegrin.

                                    D-2     Albert Sidney Genius was born March 21, 1882 in Natchitoches, Louisiana. He was married to Laurie Alice LeBeau on November 9, 1904 in St. Mary’s Catholic Church in New Roads, Louisiana. He died June 19, 1933 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

 

Laurie Alice LeBeau was born January 15, 1882 in New Roads, Louisiana. She was the daughter of Charles Hazeal LeBeau and Catherine Davisa Hurst. Albert and Laurie had the following children:

                                                E-2      Garnet Genius. He was married to Eulalie Fleshman

 

                                                E-3      James Winston Genius. He was married to Crena Tullos.

                                                E-4      Shirley Katherine Genius was born June 7, 1909. She was married to Lewis Fielding Phillips. She died May 18, 2000 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

 

Lewis Fielding Phillips was born October 23, 1910 in LaBarre, Pointe Coupe Parish, Louisiana. He died July 24, 1998 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

 

                                                            F-1      Fielding Chadwick Phillips was born August 9, 1936 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. He was married to Annette Brumfield.

                        C-9     Isabelle Font was born in 1862 in New Orleans, Louisiana. She was married to James Thomas Johnson. She died in Natchitoches, Louisiana.


Note: The mother of the following three children of Jose Font y Bosch can not be confirmed.

 

            B-2      Benedict Joseph Font was born in Havana, Cuba in 1831. He was married to Josephine Catherine Bundy on June 15, 1854 in New Orleans, Louisiana. He died October 14, 1858 in New Orleans, Louisiana. He was buried in the Anglada Tomb in St. Louis Cemetery #2 in New Orleans, Louisiana.
