He served in the Confederate Army in the War Between the States. He was wounded in the Battle of Pleasant Hill. A fellow soldier, B.F. “Doc” Arthur took him to his nearby home where he meet his future bride, Mary Evaline Arthur, fourteen years his junior. He was married to Mary Evaline “Mollie” Arthur on March 22, 1868. He died October 26, 1909 in Dry Creek, Louisiana. He was buried in Dry Creek Cemetery, Dry Creek, Louisiana.

Fifth Generation
47. William Hanchey was born November 15, 1806 in Horry Co., South Carolina. He left South Carolina with his parents for Dallas Co., Alabama in 1822. He served in the military in 1836 in Alabama. He and his brothers fought in the Creek Indian Uprising of 1836. They were give “Bounty Land” for this service. William served as Justice of the Peace in Pike Co., Alabama. He performed the marriage ceremonies for his brother James, and for his sister Eliza to Amos Harris. He was administrator of the estate of his brother, John and his brother-in-law, Amos Harris. He and his family left in 1859 with ten of his eleven children for Louisiana. The trip to Louisiana was made by steamboat from Mobile to New Orleans and up the Mississippi River. They settled in Marsh Bayou, Imperial Calcasieu Parish. His brother James and his family also accompanied them to Louisiana and settled in Caldwell Parish, Louisiana. In 1871, he was a charter member of the Smyrna Baptist Church in Sugartown, Louisiana and was elected Clerk of the Church. He was married to Frances Letlow on October 1, 1829 in Dallas Co., Alabama. She was living with an aunt and uncle when she meet and married him. He died October 7, 1883 in Dry Creek, Louisiana. He was buried in Shiloh Cemetery in Dry Creek, Louisiana.

Ninth Generation 767. Jacob Hanchey ,Sr. was probably born about 1700 in Palatinate area of Germany. The Palatinate area of Germany was west of the Rhine River near the Swiss border. In April, 1745, he was granted a tract of 175 acres of land in New Hanover, North Carolina. In June, 1747, he petitioned for and was granted 50 acres of land opposite the Saxe-Gotha Township of South Carolina. In this petition he was identified as a Protestant Palatineate. This grant stated that it was given in accordance with the policy of granting land to all “foreign Protestants desirous of coming to this Providence.” He served in the military on September 4, 1748 in Wilmington, North Carolina. He and Jacob, Jr. served under Cap. John Simpson when the area was threatened by the Spanish from Florida. They both served six days. Jacob Hancheys service number was 96 and Jacob, Jr.’s. was number 101. He died about 1760 in South Carolina. Jacob has the following children:
