He immigrated to the United States from Germany in December, 1851. He enlisted into the Confederate Army on March 22, 1862. He served under Confederate General Albert Sydney Johnston in the War Between the States. He was a 1^st Sergeant of Company K, 27^th Regiment of the Louisiana Volunteers. He was captured at Vicksburg, Mississippi on July 4, 1863. He was released in a prisoner exchange on April 1, 1864 in Shreveport, Louisiana. His son, Albert Sidney was named after the General. He was married to Mary Celeste Font on February 5, 1879 in St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in New Orleans, Louisiana. He died September 7, 1889 in Natchitoches, Louisiana. He was buried in 1889 in Catholic Cemetery in Natchitoches, Louisiana.
