E-1 William Hanchey was born November 15, 1806 in Horry County, South Carolina. He migrated to Dallas Co., Alabama in 1821. He served in the Alabama Mounted Volunteers militia in the Creek Indian Uprising of 1836. He received bounty land for this service. He served as Justice of the Peace in Pike Co., Alabama. He performed the marriage ceremonies for his brother James to Martha Spencer and his sister Eliza to Amos Harris. He was administrator of the estate for his brother John and his brother-in-law Amos Harris. He and Frances left Pike Co., Alabama in 1859 with ten of their eleven children for Louisiana. Their oldest daughter, Eliza had married and remained in Pike Co., Alabama. They were accompanied by his brother, James and his family. They sailed from Mobile, Alabama to the Mississippi River and up to a point where they disembarked and journeyed to Marsh Bayou, Imperial Calcasieu, Louisiana. His brother James and his family continue up the river and settled in Caldwell Parish, Louisiana. He relocates to Dry Creek, Louisiana. He was a charter member and Clerk of the church of the Smyrna Baptist Church in Sugartown, Louisiana, organized in November, 1871. He was married to Francis Letlow on October 1, 1829 in Dallas Co., Alabama. He died October 7, 1883 in Dry Creek, Louisiana. He is buried in Shiloh Cemetery in Dry Creek, Louisiana.
